Lake Matheson is in Westland, the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, where it rains more than 200 days every year. Every time I have been there I have arrived in pouring rain, only to have the clouds part giving me the opportunity to capture the reflections of Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman in the still water of the lake. Film image made with Kodak film and 35mm Contax camera.
A retired commercial pilot with a lifelong love of photography, I live in the very south of New Zealand where I love to capture the landscapes and the life of this beautiful part of the world. From the rugged and windswept coast, to the mountains and lakes of the interior, the variety and the scale of the region is majestic, with the weather and the seasons presenting an ever changing palette of color. I prefer the color and texture that film gives, so most of my work is captured this way using both 35mm and medium format cameras.
