The Oreti River in Southland, New Zealand, captured from the Five Rivers Bridge with film and a 1952 Zeiss Ikoflex camera. The Oreti is a typical South Island braided river that flows from bank to bank after heavy rain, but spends most of it's time meandering along the gravel riverbed. The winter sky is reflected in the water, and the trees along the banks are waiting for a new suit of clothes in the spring.
A retired commercial pilot with a lifelong love of photography, I live in the very south of New Zealand where I love to capture the landscapes and the life of this beautiful part of the world. From the rugged and windswept coast, to the mountains and lakes of the interior, the variety and the scale of the region is majestic, with the weather and the seasons presenting an ever changing palette of color. I prefer the color and texture that film gives, so most of my work is captured this way using both 35mm and medium format cameras.
